Beyond the LRT: Real Commute Times from Senja Close
7 min read
Every property advertisement highlights proximity to an MRT or LRT station. For Senja Close EC, it's the 5-minute walk to Jelapang LRT. But what does that translate to in real-world, door-to-door commute times during peak hours? I put it to the test.
The Morning Commute to the CBD (Raffles Place)
The Route: Walk to Jelapang LRT → 2-stop ride to Bukit Panjang MRT → Downtown Line direct to Raffles Place.
- Walk to Jelapang LRT: A comfortable 5-minute stroll.
- LRT Wait + Ride: Peak hour frequency is high (3-4 mins). The ride itself is another 3-4 minutes. Total: ~8 minutes.
- Transfer at Bukit Panjang: The LRT and MRT stations are integrated. The walk is seamless and takes about 3 minutes.
- Downtown Line Journey: The direct ride from Bukit Panjang to Raffles Place is approximately 32 minutes.
Total Journey Time: ~48 minutes door-to-door. This is highly competitive and comparable to commutes from other popular suburban locations, proving that Senja Close is more connected to the city core than many perceive.
Weekend Trip to Orchard Road
The Route: Same initial journey to Bukit Panjang, then Downtown Line to Newton MRT, and a quick switch to the North-South Line for one stop to Orchard.
The journey to Newton takes about 25 minutes. The transfer and final leg add another 10-12 minutes. Total journey time is under 40 minutes, making weekend shopping and dining trips incredibly convenient.
Driving and Expressway Access
For those who drive, Senja Close offers excellent connectivity to major arterial roads and expressways. The Kranji Expressway (KJE) is just a few minutes' drive away, which seamlessly connects to the Bukit Timah Expressway (BKE) and subsequently the Pan-Island Expressway (PIE). This network provides efficient car travel to almost any part of Singapore.
